Distance Education for All Learers (DEAL)
Student Guidelines and Regulations
Registration and Fees
Individuals registered in the DEAL program must pay a $25 registration fee every six (6) months in order to remain active in the program.
Communication and Conduct
Students are expected to:
Speak politely and courteously to all teachers and staff at all times.
Refrain from using disrespectful, offensive, or hurtful language.
Assignment Submission
Students must submit assignments one at a time to their assigned teacher.
Assignments may be submitted by:
Scanning and emailing them, or
Mailing them to the Centre.
Submitted assignments will be corrected within 2–5 business days.
All students must complete and pass the assignments associated with each module.
Failed assignments must be redone and resubmitted.
Cheating during an exam will result in the exam being confiscated, and the student may be required to terminate their studies with the DEAL program.
Plagiarism and Use of AI
Plagiarism is not permitted.
Students who plagiarize in assignments will be required to:
Redo the work, and
Meet with the teacher for a remediation session to review the plagiarized work.
A second plagiarism offence may result in the student no longer being permitted to continue in the DEAL program.
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to complete assignments is not permitted.
AI may be used only as a support tool (e.g., brainstorming or understanding concepts), but exclusive or primary use of AI to complete an assignment is prohibited.
Students found using AI improperly will be required to redo the work and attend a remediation session.
A second AI-related offence may result in the student being removed from the DEAL program.
Remediation
Each student is assigned a teacher.
Students are permitted 20–30 minute remediation sessions with their teacher.
Remediation sessions are limited to five (5) sessions per module
.
Exams
Exams cannot be scheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice.
Students may request to write an exam only after completing and passing all required assignments.
Exam requests must be submitted through the DEAL website. Requests will be accommodated based on availability.
Students who cancel an exam more than three (3) times without notice will be charged a $25 penalty fee.
Students who cancel an exam more than five (5) times, even with notice, will also be charged a $25 fee.
Exam Rewrites
Students who fail an exam are permitted one rewrite.
Students are encouraged to schedule a remediation session with their teacher before requesting a rewrite.
Students may request an exam rewrite to improve their grade only if an alternative version of the exam is available.
